We are hesitant to implement this feature, because it will make more complex the UI, and that goes against our compromise of keep Coda.fm as simple as possible. Also, until now we only have a couple of cases of uploaded torrents for existing albums, but in another format/quality, so it doesn’t appear to be that necessary either.

create a "music request" section
so we can request music that are hard to find anywhere else, hoping that someone at coda.dm who has them can kindly upload the music :) cheers.

Allow us to search for songs in the search box
If i am looking for a song that is sung by an artist but I am not sure which album it is in or even who the artist is - let the search find it for me by allowing me to type the song title and then letting it show me all the albums that have those words or better - the exact phrase. It might be good to differentiate this search to a regular artist search - perhaps a "song title" check box under the search.

recommendations based on download history
If you have user N's download history, and some fancy lastfm or pandora-like-algorithm, you can deliver personal recommendations - albums I might like (e.g. via RSS).
So, if you have a RSS-compatible torrent client, you would have all the music you *really want* on your computer asap.

Add OpenID support as an authentication mechanism
Allow easy quick login from OpenID providers like Yahoo and Google, which insulates you from the responsibility of storing and dealing with passwords, and allows higher level user's like moderators to use higher security providers like Vidoop, helping make coda.fm more resilient to account hijacking.

Create a quality standard.
(Eventually) create a quality standard for uploading albums. The great thing about Coda.fm is that it has a nice, clean interface and is minimalistic, it would be great to have torrents the same way. An example of this type of system can be found on www.boxtorrents.com. Users upload a torrent., then it is reviewed by the admins and community and given a "Pass" tag, or is given a "Fail" tag with an explanation, allowing the user to fix the problems and re-upload. This would get rid of the artist tagging problem that I have already observed on the site… more

Add genre tags to the top Albums page
You cant see what genre the music is, I think it would be useful.

add direct download links in the RSS feed
By adding direct download links in the RSS feed programs like utorrent could download the music right from the RSS feed instead of opening a webpage to go to the site.

Give rank and status to frequent/mass uploaders
Members who upload a lot of albums help make the site what it is - reward them by giving them rank or status on the site. This can either be in the form of coloured/bold names or little icons next to their name. This helps in 2 ways. Firstly it shows the uploader that their work is recognised and appreciated. Secondly it shows downloaders that the uploader is reliable and consistent in quality since so many of their uploads have been approved.
Going on from this further - members who have these higher ranks should be allowed to "fast track"… more

add concert listings and a way to buy tickets
Adding a list of concert dates for each artist that would allow you to buy tickets.

get a great lawyer
I know that there is nothing illegal about running a torrent tracker or indexer, but the music/movie industry doesn't like to see it that way. I really like this site, and if you put up a donation button, then I'm sure others would also donate to help keep it alive.

Variable Setting
I would like to be able to select Variable and then specifity what kind of VBR. I upload a lot of V2 and V0 and I there is a big difference in the 2. I would like to be able to mention that in the uplaod and right now if I write V0 as a bitrate I get an error.

provide magnet: bittorrent links for azureus and other clients
see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnet_URI_schemeor http://azureuswiki.com/index.php/Magnet_link for a description of the magnet: URI scheme, but basically it's an alternate method of downloading bittorents from a decentralised source by providing the bittorent client with the torrent's info hash.
